ABOUT

What is Maahol?

Maahol is Hindi for atmosphere. We build living audio spaces that recreate the feeling of specific places in 90s India — not as museums, but as rooms you can actually sit inside.

Why nostalgia rooms?

Memory is tied to sound more than any other sense. The crackle of a cassette, the ambient noise of a chai tapri, the distant dhol from a baraat — these sounds carry an entire world with them. We believe a well-crafted audio environment can transport you there, more reliably than a photograph ever could.

Each Maahol room is built around a specific physical setting: a particular kind of place, with its own ambient soundscape, its own playlist curated for that vibe, and a live community of people who feel the same pull toward that memory.

The network

Maahol isn't one room — it's a growing network. We launch rooms one at a time, with genuine care: the audio is designed for headphones, the playlists are curated (not algorithmic), and each setting is treated as a real place worth inhabiting.

Alongside the official rooms, we give anyone the ability to build their own room in the Studio. Personal rooms run on the same infrastructure — same real-time presence, same immersive audio — but carry your own playlist and backdrop.

How it works

Step into a room and you'll hear music playing synchronised across everyone in the room — the same song, at the same moment. The ambient soundscape wraps around it. If the room has live chat enabled, you can talk to the other people listening. If song battles are on, you can nominate tracks and vote head-to-head.

We use YouTube for the music layer, spatial audio design for the ambience, and a distributed edge network for real-time presence — so the rooms stay fast and always-on.

Who built this?

Maahol is an independent project, built by people who grew up with these sounds and wanted a place to return to them. We're not a startup with a deck. We're just building the room we wanted to exist.
