Privacy Policy
We built Maahol to be a place to listen, not a place to be watched. This document explains plainly what data we collect and why.
What we collect
Account data. If you sign in, your account is managed by Clerk. We store your Clerk user ID in our database to associate rooms you create with your account. We do not store your password, email, or personal profile directly — Clerk handles that.
Room data. When you create a room in the Studio, we store: room title, tagline, background image URL (if provided), chosen theme, playlist (YouTube video IDs), and feature settings. This data is stored securely in our database.
Display name. When you enter a room, you choose a display name. This is stored in your browser's localStorage and sent over the WebSocket to other people in the room. It is not linked to your account and is cleared when you clear your browser data.
Chat messages. Messages you send in a room are broadcast in real-time via WebSocket to other users in that room. We do not persist chat messages to a database — they are ephemeral and exist only for the duration of a live session.
Analytics. We use standard web analytics to measure aggregate page views and performance. No personal data is attached to these measurements. We do not use cookies for tracking or advertising.
What we do not collect
- We do not sell your data to anyone.
- We do not run advertising or build advertising profiles.
- We do not track you across other websites.
- We do not store payment information (we have no paid features).
Third-party services
Clerk handles authentication. Their privacy policy applies to data they process on our behalf: clerk.com/legal/privacy.
YouTube provides the music embeds. When a YouTube video plays, YouTube may set cookies and collect data per their own privacy policy.
Infrastructure providers host our platform. Network-level data (IP addresses, request metadata) is processed by these providers to deliver the service and protect against attacks.
Data retention
Room data is retained indefinitely until you delete your room from the My Rooms dashboard. When you delete a room, all associated data (songs, settings) is permanently removed from our database.
Your rights
You can delete your rooms at any time from the My Rooms dashboard. To request deletion of your account data, contact us and we will action it within 30 days.
